More Americorps positions - Village of Hope and others

We just posted here about the Americorps position at Solid Ground. Neighbor organization Village of Hope is also seeking an Americorps member, and sends this announcement containing other positions as well.

I am sending this email to you for your information and assistance in spreading the word. If you know of anyone that would be interested in working with Americorp, we have applications available at Freedom Church or you can apply at the Americorp Office located at 464 12th Avenue in the Central District.

If you are interested in working with the Village of Hope (VOH), the VOH board members will be sharing information about the positions they are hiring for on Wednesday, July 9th from 5:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Freedom Church in West Seattle, located at 9601 35th Avenue S.W. Following the information session, the VOH board will be setting up times to interview candidates for the positions.

    • Metrocenter YMCA Street Soldiers Program, in partnership with Atlantic Street Center's New Holly and Rainier Beach Youth Programs…and working in Aki Kurose and Meany Middle Schools
    • NELA Center for Student Succes --- College Readiness Program
    • Powerful Voices Girls RAP (rights! Action! Power!) working with girls in local middle schools
    • Powerful Voices STAGES (Strength Through All Girl Education and Support) working with girls in and out of juvenile detention
    • Seattle Bilingual Orientation Center, a Seattle Public School for immigrant and refugee youth
    • Village of Hope Youth Violence Prevention Network
    • WAPIFASA (Washington Asian Pacific Islander Families Against Substance Abuse) Youth Development Program

JustServe AmeriCorps Members commit to working full-time (40 hours/week) from 9/2/08 to 7/31/08.
In exchange for their service, they receive $1, 036/month living stipend, plus $4,725 federal Education Award.
In addition to working at the project site, Members spend 20% of their service time in skill-building, reflection and service activities as an AmeriCorps team.

Solid Ground is also hiring more than 70 AmeriCorps and VISTA Members to serve with:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. VISTA Corps --- strengthening programs fighting poverty in our community
  • Seattle and South King County Reading Corps --- supporting elementary school kids to succeed in school
