Community Meetings to be held on

Seattle Public Schools’ Strategic Plan

Upcoming community discussions are on May 14, 15 and 20

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Maria L. Goodloe-Johnson, Ph.D., will host three meetings in May where the Seattle community can learn more about the District’s draft Strategic Plan. Following a presentation by the Superintendent, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in small group discussions and provide feedback as the District develops implementation strategies.

The first community meeting will be held Wednesday, May 14 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Roosevelt High School library and the second meeting is Thursday, May 15 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at West Seattle High School’s Commons Area.

The third community meeting, designed with bilingual families in mind, will be Tuesday, May 20 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Aki Kurose Middle School in the cafeteria. Simultaneous interpretation of the initial presentation will be available and small group discussion will be conducted in the top languages spoken by our families (Amharic, Chinese, Oromo, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tigrigna and Vietnamese).

Information, presentations, copies of peer reviews and other documents are available on the Strategic Planning Web site at: Materials presented at the May 7 board work shop, community meetings and other board meetings will be posted as available. Feedback is always welcome via email at

The process for School Board action on the Strategic Plan includes a board work session on Wednesday, May 7 from 4 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. at the John Stanford Center. The Strategic Plan will be formally introduced to the School Board at the May 21 meeting and is scheduled for a vote on Wednesday, June 4.

The process of developing a draft strategic plan for Seattle Public Schools began last fall. Inputs to date have included findings from numerous peer reviews of academic programs and operations departments; an extensive diagnostic study; review of academic and operations data; staff surveys; and Superintendent meetings with many groups.
